We all know that vampires suck blood as their food and we also know that vampires create offspring by biting their prey. Sure, the manga may be different, but it doesn't make the anime any better.Īnyways, I will still be seeing this anime through to see if any of my claims will be refuted, but so far I’m really not liking this. I'd like a reminder that this review is coming from someone who hasn't touched the manga, and I'm not planning on it. If you think of her as a minor, then it’s even weirder why they sexualize her so much. Even if the age of consent in a country is like 10, you would never see an 11 year old and an 18 year old dating and think that's okay, because morally it is disgusting.Īnd to the people who are going to say “well she’s an immortal teenager”. I don't know what prefecture the author of the manga, Kotoyama, lives in, but when it comes to this, I feel like there's also a moral standard that comes with the age of consent. You can argue that it's because the age of consent in Japan is 13, as disgusting as it is, which is true, but there's prefectures in Japan that raise it to 16-18. But its emphasized how that's purely an intimate and physical experience. Now, to be fair, "sex" in this anime, or at least what they do as a vampire and a human, is just Nazuna sucking Ko's blood. Ko is a child, he states that he is 14, and he goes to middle school.Īnd they're supposed to fall in love and even go as far as to have "sex". Nazuna is an adult vampire, and you can tell from hints like the fact that she legally does drink beer and she owned one of those blocky cellphones before the flatter ones came out. Now to really get down to it, let’s talk about the blatant pedophilia. It just enhances a never-ending problem with the anime industry, which I can usually ignore, but Akira is a minor, and also this is my review so I'm stating all my problems with it. The women in this anime are sexualized and objectified a lot, with flattering shots of Akira's thighs, and a bunch of sexual imagery of Nazuna. The target audience for this anime is also clearly targeted towards the male gaze. Her manipulative behaviour is more obvious when she comes back and just kisses him to make him forget, doesn't even apologize, while poor Ko was worried sick. While Ko has the free will to decide whether he wants to go to school or not, Nazuna almost guilt trips him into not by the 3rd episode, with the way she just left and got all pissy at him when he went silent when asked to come back to school. The concept of the anime could also turn out to be really sweet, if it weren’t for all the negative comments I’m about to say of this review.įor some light starters, the appetizer if you will, the way Nazuna controls Ko is disturbing. I found myself humming it after I had finished the 3rd episode, despite my dislike for the anime. of the shading in some scenes is really well done. She states that in order for a human to turn into a vampire, they must fall in love with said vampire.įor the positives of this review, the art style is really pleasing to the eyes. They sleep, and she bites his neck, but he doesn’t turn into a vampire. This anime is about a boy (Ko) who gets tired of his day life, and decides to go out at night, where he meets a vampire girl (Nazuna) who befriends him and brings him to her apartment. So, some context before I get into this review: TL DR: Not my thing, pedophilia in more literal terms, and manipulation. Ready to let go of his dreary mortal life, Kou decides on a new goal: he will fall in love with Nazuna and become a vampire. In order to change, he must be bitten by someone he truly loves. While Kou thinks the bite will turn him into a vampire, the specifics of transforming are not that simple. Feeling uncomfortable, Kou only pretends to doze off-which is when Nazuna suddenly bites his neck and reveals herself to be a vampire! Nazuna offers to help Kou with his sleep issues and invites him over to her place, where she convinces him to share a futon with her. One night, Kou encounters a bizarre girl named Nazuna Nanakusa who believes that people stay awake during the night because they are dissatisfied with how they spent their day and cannot rest until they release their inhibitions. Plagued with insomnia due to his idleness, Kou begins roaming the lonesome streets at night. Because he sees little sense in surrendering to the norm, he soon stops going to school. Kou Yamori is an average middle school student who struggles with grasping the complex concept of love.
